At Founding Farmers, Everything Matters. Nothing is too small. If something can be made better, smarter, healthier, that’s how we want to do it. This means we thoughtfully source all our ingredients.
We're hosting active recycling and composting programs that divert about 90% of our waste from landfills. We design and operate sustainable restaurants.
EVERYTHING we serve, all of our food and drink, are from scratch. Our Co-Owner Michael Vucurevich (known as Mike V.) and Chef Joe Goetze continually develop our menus, crafting new and delicious ways to serve our guests, starting with simple, high-quality ingredients.
That English muffin? Made in our bakery with North Dakota flour and served with jam, also made here. The burger? All-natural beef, ground daily in our restaurants. Those fries? Yep, made fresh each day from the highest quality potatoes. That ice cream? Hand-churned here. Ginger Soda?
Our bartenders are also chefs. We boil and reduce fresh ginger crafting our own ginger syrup. Our beverages? That too. We have our own distillery, Founding Spirits, located in the heart of our Nation’s Capital inside one of our restaurants.
Our award-winning spirits use all American ingredients harvested by American farmers. Originally created for our restaurant craft cocktail beverages are available to enjoy at home.

Nicecream was started in a small home kitchen, as two food lovers' weekend project. College sweethearts, Gil Welsford and Sandra Tran, love trying adventurous recipes. One Saturday morning, they decided to take Sandra's ice cream recipes to the next level by freezing her creations with liquid nitrogen. Captivated by the process and the quality of ice cream coming out of their experiment, they forged on. After a few months of molecular gastronomy experimentation, the idea of Nicecream was born.
Starting in farmers markets, the two push carted their way into the hearts of ice cream lovers all over DC. In 2014, using their own personal savings, they opened their first store in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. Nicecream earned recognition from CNN, US News and World Reports, Food and Wine, as well as many local publications. Since then, Nicecream has grown to four ice cream shops. Remaining a locally owned and female operated company, Nicecream has stayed true to its values of fresh, ethically raised milk and produce while they continue to spread their passion for freshly crafted ice cream throughout DC.
